Prince Willem Frederik van Nassau created the park in 1648. For 150 years it was a private property until King Willem I opened it to the public. Now it is a favorite spot of the residents of Leeuwarden to have a barbeque, have drinks with friends and enjoy the sun and in the spring and summer.
